Important and exciting developments coming to the Cove in 2009

Stillhouse Cove is not only a public park, it is also a priceless and ecologically-fragile public waterfront that needs constant nurturing and monitoring. The next phases of restoring Stillhouse Cove will support more diverse plant and animal life, while combating invasive phragmites. To allow more salt water to flow into the marsh, the creeks will be excavated and some of the fill material that was placed back into the wetland area after the earlier work will be removed.

The maze of regulatory permitting involves working to secure funds and permission from: the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, the Army Corp of Engineers, the state’s Department of Environmental Management, Coastal Resources Management Council, and the City of Cranston. Save the Bay provided instrumental technical support. Permits have been filed and work could begin within weeks.

The financing for this project comes through grants awarded to EWPA from both the federal and state governments, including legislative grants sponsored by Senator Josh Miller, and in-kind assistance from the City of Cranston. The balance of the costs of this project would be funded through the generous contributions of neighbors and supporters like you. As this financially tumultuous year comes to a close, we hope that you will consider a donation to this project that will enhance our Edgewood neighborhood.
